Nigeria Halts Rice Imports to Boost Local Farming and Stabilize Market
time:2026-02-11visits:32

The Nigerian government has recently decided to suspend rice imports in order to counteract the negative impact of foreign grain on domestic agriculture and protect local rice farmers. This measure aims to address the sharp drop in market prices and severe losses suffered by farmers due to the influx of low-cost imported rice.

With the policy shift toward supporting local production, implementing a minimum purchase price, and strengthening the regulation of national grain reserves, it is expected to help stabilize domestic grain prices, increase farmers' willingness to cultivate, and gradually restore a healthier cycle in the food market.
