Kesaijinong making milestone progress in development of its patented herbicidal ingredient toxapyzone, with initiation of process of registration
In response to the current global food security initiative, pesticide plays a vital role as a most important means of production. However, for a long time, with the spread of resistant weeds, the effectiveness of existing herbicides against a variety of cropland weeds has been constantly declining, whilst the safety hazard to afterreap crops and the ecological environment have worsened, calling for a new technological revolution.
After years of technical research, Chines agrochemical company Jinan Kesaijinong Chem Co., Ltd. has launched its latest R&D and application achievement – Toxapyzone, a compound highly recognized by industry experts, due to its properties of green weed control, resistant weed control and multi-crop application, providing a new impetus for China’s green agricultural development.

This compound is an HPPD inhibiting herbicide, which inhibits the synthesis of carotenoids in target weeds, causing chlorosis, albino and death of weeds, while being safe for crops.
Toxapyzone has the features of clear-cut action site, low toxicity to environment, less amount of use and fast effect, being safe for crops. Kesai Agrochemical filed for a patent for the compound on November 3, 2023, having obtained an invention patent on May 24, 2024 (patent number: ZL 202311455118.9), which was filed for PCT patent on May 6, 2024, having obtained the international patent PCT/CN2024/ 091133, followed by patent application overseas. So far, the registration has been filed with the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.
In terms of field application, after two years of demonstrative field trials in different locations, the product shows excellent effect of control of green foxtail, crabgrass, barnyard grass, crowfoot grass, reed, bermuda grass, amaranthus retroflexus, goosefoot, purslane, piemarker, broccoli and nutgrass, while being also effective against grassy weeds, broad-leaved and sedge weeds. Moreover, the compound is soil active.
A latest research result reveals that in addition to its normal application to weed control in corn field, toxapyzone is adaptive to use in wheat field, sugarcane field, rice field and uncultivated land, which broadens its scope of application. The compound’s adaptability to weed control in uncultivated land is very meaningful, which is a contribution to control of resistant weeds in uncultivated land.
Furthermore, Kesai Agrochemical has conducted formula and process optimization to have achieved the product’s rain fastness, which enables a stable efficacy in bad weather fulfilling the climate condition of agricultural regions such as Northeast, Huang-Huai-Hai and Southwest China. The innovative development of the product toxapyzone enables promotion and application of the herbicidal technology towards more efficient and ecological direction.
